  OTHEN CARE TRAINING

At Othen Care Limited, training and personal development remains a huge priority in our day to day care practices.  Training starts for the carer as soon as they join our care team, through the Induction process.

Induction training involves 5 days learning about our policies and procedures, about our approach to delivering Person Centred Care and completing our core training courses which are listed below;

  • Manual Handling

  • Health and Safety

  • Abuse Awareness

  • Understanding Dementia

  • Infection Control

  • Medication Management

  • Dignity & Respect

  • Nutrition

We also arrange for new carers to have on the job training in the form of shadowing. The new carer will go out with an experienced member of the team, which allows them to see what happens at the clients homes, filling in Clients folders and generally how policies and procedures are put in place when physically carrying out the work.  We hope to complete all Induction training within a week but due to individual circumstances we allow six weeks to complete the Induction.

Once our care staff have completed their induction they will then complete other work related training courses and receive regular updated training which includes;

Basic First Aid

Basic Food Hygiene

Dignity & Respect

Fire Safety

Training and development are as individual to the management and care staff as care needs are to our clients.  All
members of staff are encouraged to develop their knowledge in areas that they are particulaly intersted in for example training on the effects a stroke may have on someone or Diabetes Training to gaining insight of a particular client’s illness.  We also encourage all new staff to enroll and complete further education in Health and Social Care by working towards their NVQ2 or NVQ3 in care. These qualifications will be replaced in January 2011 by Diplomas which will enable care staff to
gain qualifications at their own pace along flexible routes which will also enable a more person centred approach as care staff will be able to select courses relevant to the Clients they care for
